New Ownership for Wine Down on Main

Article in The Transylvania Times by David Bradley

Wine Down on Main, a fixture for wine connoisseurs in downtown Brevard, has new owners. Beth and Fred Schenberg of Brevard, longtime patrons of the casual evening spot, bought the store from Gary Glancy and closed on the sale Jan. 28.
“It’s been amazing,” said Beth. “We’ve met so many neat people and we’ve had a lot of support.”

The couple intends to keep things as they are, including the “same great servers, same great chef and same food,” according to Beth. “It’s always been our favorite place so we’re continuing the tradition.”

The pair will make some improvements, notably to the back deck, but Beth assures customers: “It’s going to be the same great place, with a lively, happy feel.” That includes frequent appearances by local musicians. The bar is noted for a large wine selection but may soon feature local breweries. Wine Down will also continue to showcase local artists, including Stephen Jackson, Jaclyn Neumann and Bob Davis.

The Schenbergs come to ownership from a good position.
“My husband has been in the restaurant business and this is right up his alley,” Beth said. “I’m an accountant and I bring the business side to it. We make a really great team.”
Frigid weather in late January put the clamps on initial business but things have perked up as temperatures have moderated. There is an upside to nicer days, “I’m looking forward to walking to work when the weather warms up,” Beth said.
