September Artist of Month – Jaclyn Neumann
Jaclyn Neumann is an abstract painter working in acrylic and mixed media. Born and raised in Brevard, she draws deeply from her connection to the surrounding landscapes and the memories tied to them. She currently lives and works in Asheville.
Her work explores themes of nature, memory and identity through intuitive abstract landscapes and portraiture. Using layered textures and expressive marks, each piece evolves organically, often blurring the lines between place, figure and feeling. Rather than telling a specific story, her paintings invite viewers to slow down and bring their own experiences into the work.
Inspired by both the natural world and internal reflection, her paintings are meant to feel familiar, open ended and quietly emotional, creating space for connection, curiosity and interpretation.
Lilah Altemose
Wine Down on Main is proud to feature the artwork of Lilah Altemose, a Brevard-born artist whose work is inspired by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the people she meets and the places she explores.
Lilah works across a variety of mediums, including graphite, pen-and-ink, pastel and watercolor. While she has a natural talent for detailed graphite drawings and expressive ink work, she enjoys experimenting with color and texture to bring each subject to life. Her artistic style continues to evolve as she explores new techniques and mediums.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world and a love of travel, Lilah creates artwork that captures both the breathtaking beauty of scenic landscapes and the quiet emotion found in everyday moments. Her portfolio includes realistic portraits, still lifes and nature-inspired pieces that balance technical precision with artistic expression.
Whether portraying the rolling peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains or memories from faraway places, Lilah strives to capture the true essence of her subjects. Her work reflects not only what she sees but also the feeling and emotion behind each scene, inviting viewers to slow down and appreciate the beauty that surrounds them.
As her artistic journey continues, Lilah remains passionate about expanding her creative voice while sharing her deep appreciation for nature, travel and the people who inspire her.

Stephen P. Jackson
Artist Statement:
The creation of art is almost always a joyful experience for me.
I have been an artist all my life, although other careers have been the source of my financial sustenance. Art is an escape and part of my mental health plan.
Formal training for aspects of art is primarily from my studies at North Carolina State University, where I attended the School of Design to study Architecture. In addition to architectural design classes, I also took courses in printmaking, photography, color theory, and life drawing. Back in the 1970’s, prior to sophisticated computer 3-D drawing programs, we did hand sketches and drawings of our building designs. Thus, an understanding of the rules of perspective, color, and light/shadow were integral to producing realistic drawings of buildings and their environs.
Knowing “the rules” makes it more fun to break them! Therefore, I don’t try to paint detailed, photo-realistic images. Instead, my images are more meant to convey the feeling or mood of a place.
My art primarily uses flat surfaces (paper, canvas, etc) as the base of the images.
Over the past 40 years, I have used watercolor, pastels, pen and ink, charcoal, oils, acrylic, wood block prints, photography, marker with colored pencil, and collage.
Inspired by landscape impressionist painters in 19th century France, and 19th/20th century Australia and the US West, (as well as the nature photos of Ansel Adams), my primary painting emphasis is Transylvania County, North Carolina and its endless mountain subject matter. With a plethora of rivers, lakes and waterfalls, I enjoy capturing the movement and reflections on water, as well as our vibrant and ever-changing skies. The human figure in natural settings also appeals to me. I am not bound by one style or subject matter, so my art emphasis changes over time.
Erin Jones
Erin Jones is a self-taught artist whose work is rooted in faith, emotion and personal expression. Guided by a deep sense of purpose, she views her creativity as a gift meant to be shared and to bring meaning to others.
Each of Erin’s pieces reflects a moment, a feeling or an experience expressed visually through color, texture and subject. Her work is intuitive and heartfelt, allowing each painting to unfold naturally as a reflection of what she feels and carries.
In her everyday life, Erin works as a hair designer, where she values the connection she builds with people on a personal level. That same sense of connection carries into her artwork, where painting becomes a space for release, reflection and creativity.
For Erin, painting is more than a practice. It is a quiet and meaningful place where she can let go, create freely and share something deeper. Her work invites viewers to pause, feel and connect in their own way.
June Artist of the Month – Christopher Christian
Christopher Christian, a Pisgah Forest resident, brings a thoughtful and refined perspective to his work in clay after a 35+ year career as an architect designing and building multinational projects. Now retired, he is able to fully explore his passion for ceramics while enjoying cycling, hiking and the vibrant arts and music community of Western North Carolina.
Chris was first introduced to ceramics during his graduate studies in architecture, where he was drawn to the simplicity and transformation of the medium. What begins as a material that can be shaped and washed away with water evolves through heat and fire into something lasting and permanent. This contrast to the complexity of architectural design continues to influence his work today.
Working with both Raku and electric kiln firing methods, Chris creates wheel-thrown and hand-formed pieces including bowls, vases, platters, canisters and hanging vessels. His process often involves carving, texturing and subtly altering forms, allowing each piece to develop its own character.
Inspired by the natural beauty of the surrounding mountain environment, his work explores form, texture and the balance between positive and negative space. Through experimentation with glazes and clay bodies, Chris creates pieces that feel both grounded and expressive, inviting a closer look and quiet appreciation.
A Rotating Collection
Our art display is always evolving. We regularly introduce new artists and rotate pieces, so there is always something new to discover each time you visit.
In addition to paintings, we are expanding to include other mediums such as pottery and handcrafted pieces, creating a more diverse and engaging experience throughout the space.
